MUJI Carnaby Street

London

MUJI’s concept store is prominently located on Carnaby Street, one of London’s most important streets for fashion boutiques and contemporary culture.

The store was comprehensively refurbished with a textural palette of materials, including reclaimed timber planks, end-grain woodblock and sheet steel, and bespoke new furniture was designed to maximise the retail capacity within the narrow width of the store.

The shop-front signage was streamlined in line with MUJI’s brand philosophy and new external and internal lighting added to enhance the retail environment. The design was tailored to maximise off-site production and to minimise on-site installation – the store was closed for only two weeks.

The project continued the successful relationship with the boutique Japanese retailer, which includes the stores on Oxford Street and in Guildford.
